A couple couple are toasting the success of their new lager brewery near Bledington.
Richard and Emma Keene started The Cotswold Brewing Company in Foscot earlier this summer and have already supplied their draft Premium Cotswold Lager to pubs in Churchill, Nether Westcote and Bledington.
Richard came up with the idea after being in the trade all his life. He studied brewing and microbiology at HerriottWatt University in Scotland and has worked as a brewer for companies including Courage, Pilgrim, Freedom and Archers.
After completing his MBA at Oxford Brookes last year he decided to use his brewing skills and the knowledge he had acquired from his course to set up his own company. His wife, Emma, was also keen to get involved using her IT client management and sales skills.
She said: "We're passionate about lager and feel that there is a gap in the Cotswold market for a locally produced quality premium lager."
The brewing equipment was bought in the States and shipped over in spring this year before the couple started production at the start of the summer.
Richard added: "We've had an excellent response so far, particularly from the farmers in the area who enjoy our light coloured lager. The advantage of our lager is that it is stored and matures over four weeks, giving it a fullbodied taste. Some other mass produced brands are only left to mature for a week."
